My Mom!

It is again a rainy day here in Bogota. We got our for a short time at the park, followed by a short walk just before the rain hit. Now the kids are all tucked in and grandma is in the room with them till they fall asleep. Lately, the boys do not want to fall asleep. They will lay in their bed and whisper, but aren't real interested in sleeping right away.

Anyways, since we are in a holding pattern with our case and we haven't been able to do much with the rain, I wanted to do a post about my mom! I thought my mom and I had a great relationship before Colombia, but this trip has brought us even closer. Honestly, I was a little nervous about how she would do down here for an extended period of time because as most of you know, she is a work horse! I know she misses doing her yardwork, housework, misses seeing her sister's, other children, other grandkids and most of all my dad. But, she is taking it all in like a trooper! As she states, "We signed up for this as a family and we will make it through as a family!" She has been a tremendous help for me! We can get a lot accomplished in a day. When it comes to bathtime, we form a little assembly line and we can get all three kids done lickity split!

Her new grandkids absolutely love her...I swear she has more energy than the 3 of them added together. She is crawling under tables with them, chasing them, swinging them, building blocks and best of all loving them! They cannot get enough of their grandma! It will be a rude awakening for them when they wake up each morning back in MN and it is just mom and dad!!

As for me, I am soooo appreciative as she respects my mothering. She is always there if I have a question (being a first time mom), but she does not tell me how I need to parent. She has been so supportive with everything. With adoptive children, it is very important for them to know that as their mom, I am there to fulfill their basic needs and I am the one to discipline them and grandma can be the one to play with them (along with mommy). It has been working out beautifully for us and we have not had any issues with that! For her to play with them, kind of gives me some little breaks that I need as well.

Don't get me wrong, we ALL miss daddy, but we have also found out that these 3 kids can eat more than me (individually!) and so daddy needed to be back home to work so that we can feed these kids the meat and potatoes that they plow through each lunch and dinner! We have been talking a lot about daddy and that we will be flying in an airplane soon to see him. This morning, the hotel staff was asking my mom and I about the rest of our family, so Sebastian and I went up to our room to get our photo album and then we went through the pictures and Sebastian seemed very proud to show his papa and casa (house) and cuarto de jugar (playroom) and each of their bedrooms. (Matt, we had to show your picture to the staff here to see if we could get one of the single ones back to the U.S. for you!! I'll keep you posted!! haha)

We hope you are all doing well and we miss you all. Keep the prayers coming, we can definitely feel the power of prayer here!

Love,
Holly and the rest of the crew!

Ahhhhh......Mom's are the best!!! (As I wipe away the tears). I know your mom thinks just as highly of you (we all do).

Soon the rain will part, the sun will shine and the courts are going to get your case processed (praying very hard!) You guys are such troopers with everything you have and are currently going through. I commend all of you!

Didn't get to post earlier than this....but Mr. John was adorable sporting his Gopher attire. I have to say I was quite shocked, I didn't think a Vettel would ever touch Gopher attire. GO GOPHERS! I know you hate me right now :)

Sending you all our thoughts and prayers.

SO much fun to get home from vacation and catch up on all your postings!!! I just love to see all the pictures! Really enjoyed your post about the kid's personalities...so much fun to read and you can really see their personalities in the pictures you post! Also, really enjoyed your post about your mom! Isn't it funny how the mother/daughter relationship really does change when you become a mom too--very special that she can spend this time down there with all of you!
Hugs from Minnesota!

Morning Holly, I always love to read your blog first thing in the morning. I pray that your case goes through court quickly so you can get back to Rhett but I will admit I'll miss reading your blog every morning. Glad your mom is there to help and support you and share her energy with the kids. I hope it stops raining there for you guys so you can get outside. Have you sang the rain, rain go away song with the kids?? Never know it might help.:-) Well take care!! Thanks for keeping us updated!!! Sarah
