Day 2

What a difference a day makes. John is actually talking. We were told his speech is behind where it should be at this age but I truly believe with him being in a family environment he will do really well. He has really taken to Rhett. We are getting a lot of smiles from the all of the kids which is so good to see after yesterday, they were pretty forced IF we got any at all. Baby steps but things are going well.

The boys continue to have their stomach issues but that has even gotten better today. Except, Rhett and John were playing in the playroom here and Cate, Sebastian and I were on the swings. All of the sudden Rhett comes out and asks me to go get a mop. I go into the playroom and John is literally sitting in a pool of liquid poo. We both noticed he was sitting next to the couch pretty quiet and Rhett was talking with another dad not paying real close attention and both dads smelled something foul and they looked over and John had a poop geyser shooting out of his diaper, NOT KIDDING AT ALL!!! So, that was the only true stomach issue today which is an improvement over yesterday.

We also had what may be called a small tantrum but in the end it was just Rhett and I not knowing. It was nap time and I was trying to get a pullup on Sebastian because we were told he wears "something" at bedtime. So, I assumed he wore a pullup for naps. Well he got quite mad and I just forced the pullup on and then I thought, he has not pulled that kind of attitude yet and so I thought maybe he doesn't wear a pullup during the daytime nap. Switched him out of the pullup and all was fine. Then tonight, I tried again for the pullup and he screamed again...thought it would work because it did last night, not so much...so, I went and got a diaper and he was totally fine with that. I guess the orphanage does not use pullups! Lesson learned!

The worst part of today just happened about an hour ago. Both boys are dealing with ear problems as well so we have to give them drops. This morning Sebastian cried but it was somewhat short term...tonight was a different story. He cried for at least a 1/2 hour because it hurt so bad. Tomorrow the doctor is going to be here for another child and I am going to ask her about it. Sebastian is supposed to be getting tubes in his ears next week and John already has tubes. John has a brief moment of discomfort when we put the drops in his ears but not like Sebastian, so we are hoping the tubes will help the pain.

We thought Cate was going to be a daddy's girl yesterday but today, I could not leave her sight. She sits up in her crib and stares at me until she just falls over when she falls asleep. Rhett and I laughed so hard today at naptime. She was sitting up staring then the head started bobbing and then all of the sudden she just plopped down. So cute!

Day 2 brought us venturing out. It was not a big deal as we just went a few blocks to the grocery store to get more diapers for our "loose cannons". We have sure gone through the diapers with this ordeal. From what we hear all children seem to come to the hotel with 2-3 days of diarrhea, this was NOT in the LSS training class! :) Anyways, our trip went well, all of the kids were complete angels, they literally did not say a word. Rhett ventured to the return counter because he was there earlier in the day and bought size 1 diapers. So we wanted to return them. I stood back and laughed while the kids just looked around. It is so funny to see him try to communicate to people who only talk Spanish. I send him because I would be no better! He is a real trooper.

That pretty much sums up today, we had a really good day, I just hope and pray that we can solve Sebastian's ear pain with the drops. You would never know he has ear problems any other time of the day.

Today was one of those days that made the 3 year wait completely worth it. Rhett even made an honest comment today that he really did not know how he would truly react to this whole process when we first started since the children are not our "biological" children. Well, we are both here to say that it does not matter AT ALL. Biological means nothing and adoption is a wonderful thing! Yes, there will be issues but I don't know of one family that doesn't have their own "issues".

I just have to add one more thing for my nieces and nephew. Sebastian sleeps with the picture book that we sent them and he always goes to the page of Maddie, Luke and Mckenna. He says all of your names very clearly and he is really excited to meet you! Love you lots, we miss you guys!

Pictures coming!

Your journals just make our day! You can just feel your happiness through your writing...poop, ear pain, and all! Sounds like you are handling everything that is being thrown at you with ease. There really is nothing worse that a child that is not feeling well. Half the time, I am crying right along with them, so if you have those moments too...they are normal (at least I tell myself that!).
Your pictures are priceless. Seriously cute kids! Keep them coming!
Our little Jake has been asking each morning when we get up if we get to go to Colombia yet. So cute. I have been pumping both of the boys up to meeting you and your little guys. We all can't wait! The countdown is on!!
